Space Exploration
Despite all of the wonderful science fiction movies and stories over the years, space and the wonders of space still remain largely under-researched.
From autonomous rovers navigating distant planets to AI-powered satellite systems optimizing Earth and deep-space monitoring, AI is enabling breakthroughs that were once only possible in the movies.
Partnering with the European Space Agency
Axelera AI is proud to announce our partnership with ESA to leverage the Metis inference accelerator in support of their five audacious goals:
- Protect our Planet and Climate
- Explore and Discover
- Strengthen European Autonomy and Resilience
- Boost Growth and Competitiveness
- Inspire Europe
Gianluca Furano, Senior On Board Computer Engineer at ESA stated: “We chose Axelera because of their sovereign technology and long-term availability, bringing fantastic capabilities to the ESA missions. With missions that may take years to develop and that end up staying in space for over a decade, we must choose technology that can continue to perform under non-permissive environments, and without much human intervention. We are thrilled that there is a European company delivering world-leading technology that can further the European Space program and support the lives of European citizens.“

Deep Space Data Analysis
High performance inference on-device and in space can accelerate the analysis of vast datasets collected. By adding powerful AI capabilities directly on the vehicles in space, agencies like ESA and NASA can better understand and identify patterns and anomalies; or even aid in discovery of new planets, black holes, and cosmic phenomena, pushing the boundaries of astrophysics.

Monitoring Our Planet
Constantly monitoring space and our planet is computationally intensive and complicated today. By adding inference capabilities into the satellites and with the imagery from the satellites, researchers and agencies can better predict weather forecasting, understand Earth's movement and shifting tectonic plates, or even early warning systems of natural disasters.

Exploring Planets
AI-driven rovers and robotic explorers, such as those used by NASA and ESA, utilize machine learning to analyze terrain, optimize movement, and make real-time decisions without human intervention. This enhances their ability to explore non-permissive and extreme environments on other planets, moons, or even asteroids.

Freedom to innovate
The highly cost-efficient, easy-to-integrate and future-proof Axelera AI Metis Platform accelerates equipment and software deployment by providing a comprehensive hardware and software solution for accelerating Vision AI in Security and Surveillance. While the hardware design enhances performance and reduces cost and power consumption, the usability of Metis makes vision AI technology accessible to a broader range of developers and enterprises worldwide, so they have the freedom to innovate.
