European artificial intelligence (AI) startup Axelera AI announced today its MetisTM AI Platform, encompassing the Metis AI Processing Unit (AIPU) chip and the Voyager SDK software stack – available as cards, boards, and vision systems – to accelerate computer vision processing at the edge.
Since its inception and initial funding last year, Axelera AI successfully taped-out its first testbench chip, developed entirely in-house, proving the performance and efficiency of in-memory compute for AI computations [Link]. In just 14 months the company has also hired more than 80 team members, distributed between its headquarters at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven (NL), its R&D offices in Leuven (BE) and Zurich (CH), its newest offices in Milan (IT) and Bristol (UK), and its Europe-wide remote locations.
Axelera AI has appointed technology veteran Jonathan Ballon to its non-executive board. Ballon joins the unique Dutch start-up designing the world’s most powerful and advanced solutions for cutting-edge AI.
Andreas is an investor and advisor with experience from the entire company life cycle. He is an angel investor in several start-ups, and also serves on the Board of a number of public companies, including AutoStore, the leading automated storage and retrieval system provider, and as chair of the Board of Kahoot! ASA, a leading EdTech platform.
The Thetis Core, first taped out in December 2021 with the support of imec.IC-link, is a test vehicle demonstrating the high performance and efficiency of the in-memory computing technology developed by Axelera AI.
